Support House Bill 1259 to Protect Affordable Access to Reproductive Health Care and Fertility Treatment for all Colorado Families
HB 1259 Protects Fertility Donors Ability to Give the Gift of Life to Colorado Families
Colorado is recognized around the country and world for its world class reproductive healthcare system which has helped hundreds of thousands of people build their families. We know that this ecosystem is under constant threat by an unpredictable and extreme national environment, but unfortunately, out-of- state special interest groups are continuing to try to limit reproductive options right here in our state
All Coloradans should be able to access diverse fertility options that meet their needs. Tell lawmakers to support Colorado families by supporting HB 1259 and protect access to reproductive and fertility care for ALL
Under a new Colorado law supported by these interest groups that recently took effect:
- Nearly 70% of men say they would not become sperm donors in our state to help Coloradans build families, driving up costs and reducing access especially for LGBTQ+ families and families of color.
- Due to increasing costs (increasing up to 14X), over three-fourths of possible Coloradans looking to build their family would be discouraged from using a licensed sperm bank and possibly be forced to shadow markets.
- Over 6 in 10 families believe current laws may prevent them from having a baby.
HB 1259 would address these problems while still ensuring recipients have the ability to contact their donor at 18 and access critical, medically pertinent donor information, retaining limits on the number of families per donor, and providing donors and recipient families with all critical background information and education. Most importantly, HB 1259 increases the ability for all Coloradans to build a family regardless of our race, gender, sexual orientation, or income.
House Bill 1259 is supported by Colorado Fertility Advocates, Progress Now, Soul2Soul Sisters, COLOR, Planned Parenthood, COBALT, Colorado Women’s Bar Association, ACOG ASRM, Elephant Circle and more.
